Gold Coast trainer Trevor Whittington started out as a jockey in New Zealand, winning the apprentices title twice and riding 500 winners over a ten year period before rising weight forced him out of the saddle. For the last three years of Trevor's riding career he established himself as one of the leading riders in Brisbane. Trevor returned to New Zealand and turned his hand to training in 1974 and it wasn't long before his experienced eye for a horse and knowledge as a horseman began to shine. Trevor has won fourteen group races including four group one's. Trevor set up training at the Gold Coast in 1994 after a successful training career in New Zealand where he trained horses for some of the most influential people there including some of the top parliamentarians and well known international figures like Sir Donald Mc keller, the then owner of the Chicago Times.
Prior to arriving back in Australia Trevor was granted a licence to train in Singapore. At the time this was a great achievement as many of the top Australian and New Zealand trainers were knocked back. Trevor's horses were ready to race and the Singapore stables were not ready so Trevor moved to the Gold Coast and it wasn't long before Trevor's horses started appearing in the winners stalls.
